The MegaMillions lottery is played in the following states:

California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.

Six numbers are generated from two separate pools of numbers:

• five different numbers from 56 numbers
• one number from 46 red numbers
